Scrapbook layouts from days gone by have given our family scrapbook new life. We now have a new appreciation for the scrapbooking designs that were used 100 years ago, because the way the memory books were designed in the early 1900s were much more simple than the current scrapbooking trends.

At first we saw the style as being very primitive, which by comparison to current layouts was quite a contrast, but the longer we examined the collection the more we grew to appreciate it. Since the methods that were used were less ornate and complicated the message was focused on the content instead of the embellishments. We noted that the journaling was more revealing and the photographs captured more emotion, both of which made for a more engaging collection.
